Nameu

Binding - Concertina

This book focuses on one of the most ancient fish on earth, the sturgeon or Nameu in Cree. The text highlights sturgeon’s historical importance in indigenous and non-indigenous cultures. The sculptural skin on the cover and micrographs of tissues and development reveal the inherent beauty of these magnificent fish.

Book is created using these materials: Maple wood covers, overlay of tanned Sturgeon skin, an inset window of clear historesin containing an actual juvenile sturgeon stained for bone and cartilage, brass hinges, title on spine of individual letters hand cut from thin steel, text block of Epson Velvet art paper with text (Papyrus font) and micrographs of sturgeon structures printed with archival inks.
